About THKAG

  • Facebook

Torontonian HongKongers Action Group (THKAG) was found in June 2019, by a group of Canadian Hongkongers with the same goal to raise awareness of what was happening in Hong Kong at the time to fellow Canadians. Mimi Lee is the convener of THKAG, who is a humanitarian. In Oct 2019, THKAG had organized its first official event, a T-shirts distribution operation, which was widely covered by the media in Canada and overseas.

THKAG  had organized and co-hosted various initiatives since June 2019 in Toronto, Events including Lennon Wall, pamphlet distributions, marches, rallies, exhibitions, panel discussions to raise awareness and support the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong, which was triggered by the Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Legislation (Amendment) Bill 2019.

One of the most successful operations the group had done was the crowdfunding and production of the “The North Stand with Hong Kong” T- shirt giveaway operation on the regular season opening game for Toronto Raptors in late October 2019. The group raised over $34k, produced and gave away 7,000 T-shirts to basketball fans heading into the arena and was widely covered by both Canadian and international media.

The group’s involvement in organizing the Global Human Rights Day Rally in December 2019 was also another successful achievement in raising awareness for global human rights issues.
